December 30 TormentX Presents : Game of the Year My GOTY, Fable 2. With a year that brought us games like GTA 4, Burnout Paradise and Fallout 3 it wasn't an easy choice to make. Fable 2 I found to be a game that anyone could play and enjoy with so much to do and explore. Lionhead studios delivered on every level this time around and the game was outstanding. With choices of good and evil, the ability to play online co-op and have mans best friend tag along with you made this my number one choice for GOTY.
Ive always loved the setting in the Fable games along with the music and the humor. Leveling up is made easy and the combat was simple, yet deep enough to keep even the hardcore pleased. With so much to do and see you could easily play this game for 50 hours plus the first time around ! Peter Molyneux and Lionhead receive my award for Game of the Year for 2008 !
My Runner up for GOTY comes out left feild considering I just started playing the game last night and that would DEAD SPACE. Why ? Its all about the mood.Like the Condemned series, Dead space puts you right in the game and adds the perfect amount of thrills and suspense. Not necessarily a horror game yet still enough to make you jump and always be looking over your shoulder. Dead Space is excellent new IP from EA and I look forward to seeing more in the future.

December 28 The day after Debockle I thought it would be cool to buy a PS3 and have it as a Blu-Ray player and from time to time rent some half way decent games for the system. Well after the long and awful time I had setting it up (updates and installs) I figured Id download some Sony exclusive games. I downloaded Motor Storm, Metal Gear and Uncharted. After playing these games I knew that spending all my X-mas loot on this system was a BIG mistake.
Long story short I called up GameStop and told them the deal. The manager new me pretty well from spending billions of dollars a year in there and let me return the system even after opening it and was willing to give me store credit. He did ask why and I replied "the PS3 is just awful". From there I did what my heart told me to do and I bought the last Wii (yes again) they had in stock for my 9 year old son Josh. It was priceless seeing the look on his face after walking in the door with it. I still stand by my word that the Wii is nothing more then a kids toy and a 3rd party dumping ground, but there is a few minutes of fun to be had with the family using it.
So let this be a lesson to you all, go out and buy a $200 BluRay player and please leave the PS3 for the uneducated gamers. I learned the hard thinking I was doing myself a favor. Lesson learned. (this was all in the matter of 6 hours by the way) I've Been Touched After a short debate about which MP3 player I should buy I decided to go with the Apple iPod Touch. Ive had a Zune before, hell Ive even had a Zen so I just figured its time to give the iPod a shot. The Touch has a ton of great features, but whats turning me on the most to it are the games. Like the Nintendo DS and the PSP before it I didnt think Id find much love in the iPod Touchs mobile gaming. Boy was I wrong.
The I pod has just the right type of on the go gaming I like, short sweet and cheap ! Every thing from classic arcade style games to racing and even RPG's are available from the Touch game store. And like I said before the games are cheap. Games that aren't free will range from $.99 to $9.99. So other than listening to music and watching movies ,my iPod is now my favorite handheld gaming device. That's until I get my Xbox mini. December 15 Once ....Twice.... So Fallout 3 wins RPG of the year at the Spike TV VGA's. Funny thing is I didn't realize how great of a game it was till after the award was given. Ya see I bought Fallout 3 on its launch day, but felt a bit overwhelmed by it right away. It didn't help that I had Fable 2 just the week before and Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead to follow. So it just kinda got lost in the shuffle right away.
Well after starting over a few nights ago and making my way out of Vault 101 I can now say I'm into FO 3 big time. Last night I really gave the outside world a test for a couple of hours and enjoyed it a lot. I can say that I have new have a new found love for the game and its some I look forward to putting some serious play time into.
December 14 I need some help deciding on this one .......ipod or Zune ?Ive been trying to decide which MP3 player to buy as of late and have been doing some research. So far the pros and cons seem to balance each other out a bit. I must say I'm leaning towards the Ipod just because the itunes store has ton of content compared to the Zunes Marketplace. Heck I even already bought myself a itunes card, I'm just not sure which model ipod I would buy yet. Touch or Nano I'm thinking. I'm open to any advice. Superghost I know your answer already. December 11 Impulse PurchaseFalling off the Edge Mirrors Edge is a great rental game. Why rental you ask? Because nobody should pay for this kind of aggravation . Now I'm not trying to bash this game at all , its a very anger inducing type of game, you run, you jump, you fall.....a lot. But this game dose bring something new to the table. Your reward for stringing types jumps and rolls together with achievements. Plus for a game that takes place in the first person mode your encouraged not to use weapons of any kind. The game also gives you a beautiful world to complete your acrobatic objectives in.
I think would have rather have seen developers DICE put all this beauty into the next Ralli Sport Challenge, but that is starting become nothing but a dream (hey a guy can have some Faith , no?). All in all Mirrors Ed is a great game, it just going to piss you the hell off ! December 02 What's Next ? So the best of the best have made they're way to store shelves just in time for the Holidays. Gears 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Left 4 Dead are enough to keep me busy till the New Year. So what's next for a gamer ? Well myself I'd like to think I'll be waiting till Christmas before I get a new game, but I know I'll crumble and pick up something before then. But If I don't, I know Ill be taking control of Lara Croft in her latest game Tomb Raider:Underworld come Christmas morning. After giving the demo a whirl I can say that Lara is still Gaming's number one leading Lady.
Now with Christmas coming I must say that I tend to be very lucky. I find myself loaded with extra cash and GameStop gift cards. Yes that means more game! So after climbing through jungles, diving in the deepest oceans and scaling the highest mountains what can be left to do? Well Ill tell ya.
So while I have purchased all of my "Must Buys" of the year already. I still have some games I'd like to own but just didn't have the time or cash for before the Holidays. Heck that list doesn't even include any of my 2009" Must Buys" like Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5 and Chronicles of Riddick:AonA. I love being a gamer !
